End-to-end fabrication and supply chain

Custom power systems and structural assemblies fabricated from aeronautical-grade components under controlled quality processes, with full configuration management and traceability. Envelope verification testing, mooring and tether integration, propulsion and control installation, and complete mission payload integration — every step under strict quality checkpoints and acceptance testing.

Our supply chain maturity is demonstrated where it counts: supporting the CBP TARS and Tactical Aerostat System contracts in the field.

Rigorous architecture, concept to lifecycle

System architecture design, envelope design with optimized material selection, and advanced mooring engineering for both fixed and mobile configurations — backed by high-fidelity Finite Element Analysis, load modeling and comprehensive SWaP optimization.

Integrated tether solutions combine power transmission and fiber-optic data in a single hardened run. Reliability, Availability and Maintainability assessments run continuously across the product lifecycle, not just at delivery.

Payload & Mission Systems

Multi-mission, rapidly reconfigurable

Multi-radar configurations — including our own L-88 — alongside EO/IR gimbal systems and communications relay payloads. Because the tether carries fiber, sensor data reaches the ground station in real time, with no bandwidth ceiling imposed by a radio link.

Payload bays are designed for reconfiguration in the field, so a platform tasked for radar surveillance this month can carry a different mission package next month.

Operations & Sustainment

We do not hand it over and leave

24/7 field operations across active sites, helium management and logistics, crew training and certification, and RAM-driven preventive maintenance. This is the part of the program that quietly decides whether a system is available when the mission needs it — and it is the part most contractors outsource.

Skyship Services has sustained the Florida Straits surveillance mission for more than four decades, at 98% mission availability.

Training and logistics support, including operator certification, runs through our own facilities — among them the historic Akron Airdock for full-system validation.

Rapid Deployment

CONUS and OCONUS, austere and modular

Our systems are modular, rapidly deployable and field-configurable for harsh environments — desert, arctic, littoral and maritime — with no heavy fixed infrastructure required. The 74K moors mobile and relocates with the mission.

Sixty-six systems went to Iraq and Afghanistan. We have deployed to Oman. The platforms travel.

FAR/DFARS, CMMC, IMS-driven transparency

ITAR registration, FAR and DFARS compliance and CMMC readiness — with Integrated Master Schedule–driven program transparency so the government customer always knows exactly where the program stands.

Proactive risk management and safety engineering practices are integrated throughout the program lifecycle — from design and fabrication through deployment and sustainment — ensuring hazards are systematically identified, mitigated and monitored.

Our newest capability puts a manned A170 airship or an unmanned tethered aerostat over stadiums, bases and critical infrastructure as a persistent counter-drone watch — detecting, tracking and identifying UAS. Early detection is response advantage.
